The date fruit is outer fleshy part surrounds the seed inside. The fruit is oval to cylindrical in shape, 3–7 cms long, and 2–3 cms diameter, and ripe dates range from golden yellow to deep brown depending on the cultivar type. Because of the biology of the date palm, its cultivation has a number of unusual features that are not common in other crops. There are a number of cultural practices that require access to the crown of the tree, and in old trees reaching tens of meters in height, this can be challenging and sometimes dangerous. The crown of the tree needs to be accessed for pollination, bunch tie-down, covering, harvesting, and pruning. Although the practice of climbing the trees for access to the crown in still found in all date-producing areas, the use of mechanical lifts is common in more advanced or industrialized production areas, such as the United States
